James is a seasoned technology and investment professional with a principal focus on companies whose technologies have the potential to positively impact the national security sector markets. He is co-founder and managing partner of NextFED, a strategy consultancy with investment banking and corporate clients. James also currently sits on five corporate boards.
Originally a scientist for the U.S. government, James has founded two successful tech companies, BDS Incorporated and Ernst & Young Technologies. He also helped found The MITA Group, a Washington-based consultancy focused on public affairs and business strategy. An active member in four angel groups and managing partner of Lavrock Ventures, a recently-formed early stage venture capital firm, James spends a significant amount of his time scouting for world-class, game changing technology. He has investments in the areas of cyber and physical security, Internet of Things, data center management, social media, analytics and mobile applications.
James also serves as a consultant to both government and corporate organizations in the area of overall strategy, product commercialization, channel strategies and M&A strategies. He is an adjunct professor at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and at the University of Notre Dame. James is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Rochester Institute of Technology and sits on the Notre Dame Engineering College Advisory Council.
